renewable energy Integrated 32bit Microcontrollers include two timer units for solar inverters front cover product R enesas Electronics has released the RX63T 32bit microcontrollers, suitable for solar inverters. They include two threephase motor control timer units: a multi-function timer pulse unit and a 16bit general-purpose PWM timer. A 12bit ADC can be used for sensorless vector control methods, such as three-shunt or single-shunt current detection. Three-channel analogue comparators are assigned to the 12bit ADC inputs. Each has three detection levels, to monitor and for emergency shutdown of external insulated gate bipolar transistors. There is also an independent watchdog and data operation circuit enabling RAM checking without CPU involvement. The microcontrollers provide a scalable memory from 32 to 64kbyte flash with up to 8kbyte of embedded SRAM. There is also an additional, independent 8kbyte of data flash memory. Dual Power Devices provide stable power by controlling switches T reneSAS eLectronIcS www.epn-online.com/search?search_keyword=47424 wo devices for dual power supplies, such as solar panels, provide a stable power supply to microcontrollers by controlling the switching between the primary or secondary (rechargeable) batteries and the solar panels. One, the ML9077, automatically controls the power supplied to the microcontroller and peripheral components from a rechargeable battery as well as from the solar panels to the rechargeable battery based on the remaining charge of the battery. Overcharge detection and malfunction prevention avoid failures due to stoppage caused by low voltage. It has less peripheral circuitry compared with conventional products, says the company and has current consumption of less than 80nA (at 25°C). Operating temperature is -20 to +70°C. It is packaged in a 12pin WQFN, measuring 3x3mm. The second device series is the ML9078 which continuously monitors the voltage generated by the solar panel and at the primary battery. It selects the higher voltage to supply the microcontroller and peripheral devices. It protects the primary battery by preventing the flow of generated current from the solar panel. High voltage supply to the microcontroller is prevented by converting the generated voltage by the solar panel to low voltage. Additional protection is given with power supply selection monitoring which reduces peripheral circuitry, claims Lapis Semiconductor.
