How many of you have noticed the latest trend of supermarkets “reinventing stores” and rolling out fresh concepts that emphasize dynamic perishables departments, more than ever before? Expect this development to continue in the year ahead, as supermarkets recognize the growing importance of fresh foods with a local connection. As you will read in the following pages, leading instores are developing stronger connections with each and every neighborhood they serve. Product mixes are being tailored to local demand. Innovative food bars are being unveiled. Supermarkets are paying close attention not only to the products that shoppers demand, but the way in which shoppers enjoy the bakery/deli products they buy.
