EDITORIAL BestFlours -Mühlenchemie's Newsletter No. 10/07 2 Hamburg in a fever of flour We can look back on an outstanding symposium. On 14 and 15 June we experienced yet again how important and rewarding international cooperation within the Milling Family can be. We are happy and proud to report that around 300 participants came to Hamburg at our invitation. Research scientists, millers and representatives of the milling industry from over 60 nations contributed their specialist knowledge to shaping the future of milling together, in the light of new information. In particular we wish to thank our top-flight speakers. The papers they held covered a wide range of topical subjects, and their quality underlined the value of the symposium for the milling industry. But the event was unique and motivating from more than just the scientific point of view. Volkmar Wywiol delighted us all with his presentation of the second edition of the book "art and flour - a Worldwide Gallery of Flour Sacks" and infected us with his passion for the World of Flour. The friendly atmosphere during the symposium made it plain that our guests felt very much at home. The lively evening programmes and the many personal conversations made the event an unforgettable experience for us all. The aim of this newsletter is to give all those who took part and those who were unable to be with us this time a brief review of the two-day symposium. At the same time we wish to thank all the people who were involved in organizing and conducting the event and whose commitment contributed so much to its success. Yours sincerely, Dr. Lutz Popper Head of Research & Development
