High-profile hotelier Vikram Chatwal has brought Rockwell Group on board to
design the new Dream Hollywood hotel, which is slated to open this summer.
Rockwell designers say the 179-key property will pay homage to Los Angeles'
mid-century modern architecture, as well as the brand's design philosophy of
blending surreal and contemporary styles.
"Hollywood is the perfect location for a Dream Hotel," says David Rockwell, founder and president of the firm bearing his surname. "Inspired by many
of the amazing surrounding houses, we strove to capture the vibrant outdoor
culture that is so unique to Los Angeles."
To that end, the property will evoke California hillside residences, with visual
connections between the indoors and outdoors. The new Dream's light-filled
lobby, for example, will house a double-height space leading to a public pedestrian alley, and a garden path will connect the entrance to the check-in and
concierge area. At night, lighting will project tree-like shadows on the pathway.
Garden-inspired elements throughout the hotel's public spaces, including
strips of grass set between stone tiles and a trellis-inspired divider wall decorated with candles, will further emphasize the indoor/outdoor theme. Guest
corridors will feature a ceiling with a trellis and louvers lit to suggest daylight
streaming through the wooden slats.
Guest rooms will bear two naturally inspired palettes: one that references
sky, water and white houses against a desert backdrop, and a second that
incorporates warmer sunset hues. Accommodations will also showcase freestanding, patinated bronze shelving units that separate the bedrooms and the
bathrooms. Custom wallcoverings installed behind the beds will depict an
abstract image of a Los Angeles scene, such as a freeway at night.
"Since we first conceived the Dream Hotels brand, we worked to craft a

sensory experience for guests," says Chatwal, vice chairman of Dream Hotel
Group and founder of the Dream, Night and Time Hotels brands. "In this
instance, we partnered with the widely recognized and award-winning
Rockwell Group to create a lifestyle hotel with exceptional design and a
stimulating and immersive environment. "
