What's the scope of
your job?

Are you
currently flying?

I belong to a flight club and
plan to work on my CFI later this
year. I need to get acclimated to
my new job and then start that
training. I am an instrument rated
commercial pilot with about 2,300
flight hours.

I am responsible for sales in
Canada, inclusive of OEM, dealer,
and regional airline customers. I
live in western Michigan and work
from a home office. My time is
focused on sourcing new sales
opportunities and supporting
customer needs. I enjoy the
variety of customers and love
the work of defining a solution
that adds value to a customer's
mission.

What do you do when
you're not working?

Is there a cultural
difference in how
business is conducted
in Canada versus the
United States?

Can you use GPS?

There are slight differences;
business meetings are sometimes
more formal in Canada. Our
business partners and customers
in Canada look to build a
relationship with responsive and
informed people. I think this is
typical of business in the U.S. or
anywhere in the world.

What do you like best
about your job?

I love getting into aircraft to see
how different avionics work and
integrate. I also love the variety of

I enjoy anything outside with
my family, winter or summer. A
friend and I just started adventure
racing. This involves using maps
and a compass to navigate through
forests, bike on gravel roads, and
paddle some type of water.

No, just topographical maps and
a compass. I learned to navigate
before GPS was available and love
working with maps. We've been
competing in eight-hour races and
find them demanding, physically
and mentally. Racers receive maps
45 minutes before the race begins
and must quickly determine their
own strategy and route. The
objective is to capture the most
check points within the course,
which are buried in the woods.

Tell me about
your family.

I have a wonderfully supportive
spouse of 19 years. I have a
15-year-old son named Eli who
goes to an aviation high school, and
I think he will pursue engineering
studies. Quinn is 12 years old and
loves hiking, biking and kayaking.
Both boys compete on robotics
teams and love math. They have
similar passions and hobbies.

What does
your future hold?

Being new to Universal Avionics,
I am immersed in learning about
our products and solutions. As
time progresses, I hope to work
on a new product development
team. Being in the field provides
opportunity to see what
customers need or want, and I
enjoy bringing that intel in-house
and working with a team to create
the next great thing to make flying
safer and more efficient. q
