" On every one of these platforms,
it's different fiber, different
connectors, different tooling, different
processes, " explained Kevin Barks,
training manager, who has been with
KITCO for more than 20 years. " We
work with the OEMs to understand
their connectors, termini and testing
processes, and then we teach
specifically to those platforms so
technicians can be successful. "
Instructors teach at one of
KITCO's facilities either in Virginia
or the company's second location
outside of San Diego, California, or
travel to customers. Wilson has spent
the better part of a year teaching
aircraft technicians at Warner Robins
Air Logistics Complex at Robins Air
Force Base near Macon, Georgia.
The base provides maintenance,
engineering and software
development for several aircraft.
" We started with an F-15 course
and then moved on to the C-17 and
C-130, " Wilson said. " For the C-17
and C-130 back shop technicians, we
did a basic general military aviation
course. They needed an ARINC 801
style connector, so we added that for
them. We do whatever helps them the
most. Coming from that background,
I know firsthand the lack of training
that we were given, which made it
rough at times. "
Over the course of 20 years, Wilson
served as an infantryman in the U.S.
Marines, worked on M1 Abrams
tanks in the National Guard, and
served as an avionics technician on
the F-14 and F-18 in the U.S. Navy.
