Spotlight on New Members

Rebecca Dempsey is the Managing Attorney in the Reading office
of MidPenn Legal Services. She previously served as the Managing
Attorney in MidPenn's Chambersburg office in Franklin County and
for Women in Need in Chambersburg as well as a staff attorney for
Women Against Abuse in Philadelphia. Rebecca has also worked in
private practice handling Social Security Disability appeals in Berwyn,
Chester County. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Government from The
College of William & Mary and her law degree from George Washington
University. Outside of the office, Rebecca enjoys walking and yoga.
The groups YAM YAM and Country Fried Funk are at the top of her
music streaming playlist. And she spent a week in London performing
at Westminster Abbey with the choir from St. Peter's Episcopal Church
in Malvern, Chester County. Rebecca and her husband, Paul, reside in
Berwyn and have two adult children, Katie and Michael, and a cat, Zeppo.
Joshua Macel is the Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable Patrick T.
Barrett. He previously clerked for one year for the Honorable Richard P.
Haaz in the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas civil division
and for the Honorable Maurice B. Cohill, Jr. of the United States District
Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. Joshua also has worked as
an associate at a medical malpractice defense firm in Norristown, as a staff
attorney at Montgomery Child Advocacy Project ("MCAP") and as a
solo practitioner. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in
Classical Studies from Allegheny College and holds a juris doctorate from
The Pennsylvania State University, The Dickinson School of Law. Named
after Baseball Hall of Fame catcher Joshua Gibson, he played rugby and
ice hockey in college and still laces up his hockey skates at all hours to
compete in a men's league along with law school classmate and Berks
County Assistant Public Defender Kent Lloyd. Outside the courthouse
and hockey rink, Joshua walks his two black and tan coonhounds,
Sherlock and Norman, and enjoys canoeing, camping and fishing as well
as rooting for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Pittsburgh Pirates. On his
eclectic musical playlist are honky-tonk legends, jam bands, and heavy
metal acts, including: Willie Nelson; Hank Williams, Jr.; John Prine;
Asleep at the Wheel; Phish; Cake; Iron Maiden; Todd Snider; Lukas
Nelson; The Rolling Stones; and Metallica. Joshua and his wife, Katie,
have an infant daughter, Marielle Lucia.
