The Chippewa River is the
standout on this course. Also
notable: The course's oak-lined
fairways (and expansive practice
area to prep for them).
State Parks
There are fi ve state parks on this tour,
including Big Stone and Lac Qui Parle.
Sibley State Park offers the newest
activity: geocaching. Stop by the park
to learn more. Or, go to Upper Sioux
Agency State Park to stay overnight in
one of two tepees.
Eagle Creek Golf Club
Right in Willmar, Eagle Creek's 18 has ponds on
Nos. 3,4,5 and 6, and a creek along two holes for
added challenge. Once a private country club.
More Sports
For golfers who are marksmen, Benson
is home to two hunting clubs with
ranges. Also in Benson during the
summer: stock car races Thursday
nights at KRA Speedway. A neat Willmar
stop is Mickelson's Classic & Antique
Boat Museum and Shop.
Hawk Creek Country Club
" A small-town course with a big heart "
is how it bills itself, and Hawk Creek is
indeed family-friendly. Designed by Joel
Goldstrand in 1997.
Granite Run Golf Course
A par-36 nine at almost 3,000 yards from the blues, it
offers unique shots and a look at some exposed granite
on Nos. 7 and 8. A large deck overlooks the course.
The Crossings at Montevideo
This Joel Goldstrand course is known for its
signature 17th hole, with a giant cottonwood tree
that locals affectionately call " Big Bertha. "
Bertha stands between the tee and the green,
and there is no easy way to get around her.
