Let’s talk layouts - Issue #2 - March 2014 - (Page 142)

Let's play with color Fire and ice ! Blue, red, orange... it may seem difficult to pull all these together in one scrap layout. It's nothing of the sort if the layouts, with this surprising marriage of hot and cold colors, created by our team, are anything to go by ! proposed by Marie-Christine Meersseman Magnificent combos ! On these pages it is the background which is the key to everything. It is the same in painting, where a white background does not let you correctly judge the links between colors, whereas a colored, neutral mainly blue or brown, more or less light in tone, will bring out the hot or cold colors, according to the general atmosphere which the painter wishes to convey. Botticelli is a past master in the art of producing his paintings with a uniform bluish sky in the background. This pure blue in the sky of the Primavera (Spring), painted in 1483, allowed him to slide in his favorite décor - a very dark forest of pine trees for contrast. In this setting, he aligned three colors - red, white and black- and orangey embellishments in the latter. It is another blue sky which welcomes Venus in the Birth of Venus of 1485 and a development of soft colors with just what is needed of blond and orange to draw our eye to the iridescence of the shell and the body complexion of the goddess, curiously surrounded by a discreet black line which shapes her body, giving it a hint of the modelling of a statue while she is going near the river bank. 142 HISTOIRES DE PAGES - LET'S TALK LAYOUTS MARCH 2014 ISSUE 2
