Chapter 1-10 Title Brands Title Brands continued D. A Repairable Salvage titled vehicle may be converted to a Reconstructed or Recovered Theft titled vehicle; however, the sub-brand notation will remain on the vehicle’s title for the rest of its useful life. Beginning April 30, 2011, a new law took effrect requiring the RMV to brand the registration and title for the following vehicles: • Custom Vehicle • Replica Vehicle • Specialty - Constructed Vehicle • Street Rod ALARS will not be updated to allow these new brands to be entered into the Brand field until sometime in May, so until that time, there is a temporary procedure that the RMV will follow when registering and titling one of these vehicles. The new brands will not display on registrations and titles until ALARS has been updated; further notification will be sent out at that time. Vehicles Already Registered If a vehicle meeting the description of one of the new brands has been registered prior to April 30, 2011, the owner must obtain a Massachusetts Assigned VIN (if applicable) for the vehicle and have his/her insurance company complete and stamp a new RMV-1 Form with the correct information on it. Once this is done, the customer can bring the RMV-1 and the title to a RMV branch. The RMV will amend the registration and override the fee and forward the title to the Title Division to be amended at no fee. 5/11 1:59
