Move Over Conventional

he organic grain-based foods market has seen some strong
entries of late.
Eden Organic Pasta Co., Detroit, recently added five
new pastas to its line of organic foods. Eden Organic Spelt Ribbons are the company's first 100% whole-grains ribbon-style
pasta. The only ingredients are organic whole-grain spelt flour
and purified water. Its Organic Artichoke Ribbons are made with
organic golden amber durum wheat flour, organic Jerusalem artichoke and organic spinach powder.
The company has also created Eden Organic Spelt Ziti Ragati,
made from small-batch milled organic whole-spelt flour, and Eden
Organic Parsley Garlic Ziti Rigati, comprised of a blend of 60%
whole and 40% sifted organic golden amber durum wheat flours
with certified organic garlic and organic parsley powders. Eden
Organic Small Vegetable Shells are made from the same flour blend
as the Parsley Garlic Ziti Rigati, but their bright colors come from
organic beet, organic spinach, organic carrot and annatto seed.
Nature's Path, Delta, B.C., created several new organic products
including EnviroKidz Organic Crispy Rice Bars made with organic whole brown rice. The snack bars come in three flavors: peanut butter, milk chocolate and berry, featuring organic freeze-dried
blueberries and raspberries. Its snack bars are designed to provide
parents a healthier option for their kids' snacking desires. All of the
Nature's Path's products are third-party certified U.S. Department
of Agriculture organic.
Another of Nature's Path's new products is its children's cereal
Cheetah Chomps, which contain whole-grain wheat, oats, millet,
corn and strawberry flavoring.
"Parents are looking to make good choices for their children,"
said Arran Stephens, founder and president of Nature's Path.
"With Cheetah Chomps, we are able to provide a superior wholegrain cereal that is low in sodium and contains less sugar but with
a natural berry flavor that kids are wild about."

Nature's Path also recently introduced Pumpkin FlaxPlus Granola designed to give consumers the benefits of organic pumpkin and
flax seeds. The product includes the taste of cinnamon and organic
oats. The granola has high levels of omega 3 and 6 fatty acids and
zinc and iron from the flax and pumpkin seeds, respectively.
Fairfield Farm Kitchens, Brockton Mass., introduced several
organic vegetarian soups and frozen organic pasta entrees from
its Moosewood Restaurant and cookbook series. The pasta dishes
are Broccoli & Pasta Parmesan, Farfalle & Spinach Pesto Sauce,
Macaroni & Three Cheeses and Spicy Penne Puttanesca.
"American consumers have been demanding higher quality,
delicious tasting heat-and-serve meal solutions for years," said
Fairfield president and c.e.o. Frank Carpenito. "The combination
of the culinary talents of Moosewood and Fairfield Farm Kitchens
has now made this consumer demand a reality. There are no products on the market today whose flavor and quality compare with
these delicious new Moosewood soups and pasta entrees."
Fairfield Farm also offers Organic Toaster Classics in blueberry,
carrot spice, cranberry corn and maple oat, which is wheat-free
and made with spelt flour. The company said the toaster muffins
were designed to go from the freezer to the toaster and on to the
plate in two minutes.
Through Concept 2 Bakers, McGlynn Bakeries, Minneapolis,
added an organic line to its Panné Provincio brand breads. The bread
consists of organic grains, water, natural yeast and a bit of salt.
