I.G.C. revises world flour trade forecast upward

The company does not identify the individuals, but it removes the names of five
officers from its web site. Krispy Kreme plans to fill the positions with existing
personnel for the time being.

Gwen Willhite, the company's founder, returns to the business as chief executive
officer. She says a recently completed brand redesign has Cookies by Design
positioned for aggressive expansion.

Special charges at the company's Kamps AG unit in Germany play a factor as
earnings fall to €8 million ($10 million) in 2004 from €44 million in 2003. Sales for
the year rise 5% to €4.68 billion.

Betsy D. Holden, president, Global Marketing & Category Development, will
take a sabbatical to spend time with her children. Kraft names Paula Sneed as
executive vice-president, Global Marketing Resources & Initiatives.

The International Grains Council estimates world flour exports in 2004-05 at
9,085,000 tonnes, narrowly changed from the prior year's 9,100,000 tonnes.
Previously, the Council said world exports would fall 3%.

As Britain takes over European Union
leadership as of July 1, the government of
Tony Blair, prime minister, is leaving little
doubt that its main objective is significant
reform of the Common Agricultural Policy.
Indeed, Mr. Blair has gone so far as to
hint of "scrapping" the C.A.P. by doing
away with subsidy payments to farmers in
developed member nations. He suggests
that structural funds could be used to help
farmers in new E.U. member countries. If
these changes are implemented, he says
Britain would then consider changes in the
"rebate" it currently receives from the E.U.
These are such great changes in E.U.
farm supports that many doubts are heard
on achieving these goals between now and
yearend. His chances are increased by the
parallel emphasis his government places
on setting a definite deadline for ending all
export subsidies, which are viewed in the
U.K. as the root wrong of the C.A.P. This
step, it is argued with great force and with
backing of the United States, is essential to
help poor developing nations improve their
own economies and end their reliance on
external assistance.
France, which is Britain's main opponent
in the Blair efforts to change the C.A.P.,
argues that export subsidies should not be
ended without the United States agreeing to
a fundamental reform in the way it supports
farmers through large direct income
payments. Thus, the possibility is raised
that the internal E.U. debate on farm policy
might end up influencing U.S. wheat prices
as much as it does anything else. MBN
