A new management team and cost control will be the initial priorities of Keebler Co.'s revamped cookie and cracker business, according to Flowers Industries, Inc., which last week joined with The
Invus Group, Ltd., in an agreement to acquire Keebler.
Eridania Beghin-Say on Nov. 6 announced it had completed the
$430 million acquisition of American Maize Products Co., which
has been merged into a unit of Cerestar, Eridania's subsidiary
engaged in starch
refining on the European continent.
The Pillsbury Doughboy celebrated his
30th birthday Nov. 7.

Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman, in a Nov. 10 interview with Milling & Baking
News, said he believed he would be able to sit down with Representative Pat Roberts of Kansas, chairman of the House Committee on
Agriculture and sponsor of the Freedom to Farm Act, and "work
through differences over farm policy." He expressed doubt about
whether they could reach a similar agreement if Speaker of the
House Newt Gingrich joined the discussion.
James A. Apple, president of Butter Krust Baking Co., Sunbury, Pa.,
was reelected chairman of The Long Co. at the wholesale baking
coooperative's annual shareholders' meeting and general managers' conference.

landmark decision hoped for in that the court did not address itself
to the constitutionality of the state law.

Glenn F. Gabbert has been named president
and general manager of Terminal Flour
Mills, Inc., Portland, Ore., it was announced
last week by C.M. Smith, chairman. Mr.
Gabbert succeeds George H. Grimes, who
resigned Nov. 1.
Morton I. Sosland, editor and publisher of
Milling & Baking News, was presented the "Mr. Gabbert
Kansas City" award of the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Kansas City on Nov. 6. The Chamber's annual award,
its highest honor, was presented at its 88th annual dinner meeting.
Charles E. Jordan has rejoined International Multifoods Corp.,
Minneapolis, as milling superintendent in the Industrial Foods
Division.

That a new reciprocal trade agreement has been definitely drawn
up between Canada and the United States was announced by President Roosevelt today in his Armistice Day address.

Gordon K. Love, previously vice-president of purchasing for
George Weston North American Bakeries, has formed his own company, GKL Commodities, Inc., Toronto.

Detectives of the New York bomb squad last Friday seized an
alleged blackmailer accused of threatening the life of Herbert L.
Bodman, president of Milmine, Bodman & Co., grain exporters, a
former president of the Produce Exchange.

John J. Nissen Baking Co.,
Portland, Maine, hopes to
make a decision this week
on a site for a new 235,000square-foot baking plant.

Sunday (Nov. 10) marked the 20th anniversary of the cyclone that
destroyed the mills of the Walnut Creek Milling Co. and the Moses
Bros. Mills, killed nine persons and caused a property loss estimated at $1 million. New mills were erected on a much larger and
modern scale.

In line with its increased
focus on snacking, Nabisco
Biscuit Co. has rolled out Air
Crisps baked snack crackers.

Kerr Gifford & Co. is still uncertain about reopening its flour mill
at The Dalles, Ore., due to difficulties over rail facilities at the plant,
known as the Diamond Flour Mills.

Louis L. Marcucci, former
president of Gonnella Baking Co. and a nephew of the company's
founder, died Nov. 8 in Hinsdale, Ill. He was 81 years old.

H. Edward Toner, board chairman and chief executive officer of the C.F.
Mueller Co., Jersey City, N.J., died Oct. 15 at the age of 71. C.F. Mueller
Co. is one of the nation's largest manufacturers of pasta products.
A federal appeals court in San Francisco has ruled that California
law requiring exact weights on flour packages without allowance
for moisture loss is in conflict with federal law and that the latter

James F. Bell, chairman of the board of General Mills, Inc., pressed
his opposition last week to the conference of industry scheduled by
Major George L. Berry, federal coordinator for industrial co-operation, to be held at Washington on Dec. 9. Mr. Bell stated that what
industry most needs today is a carrying-out in good faith of the
President's recent promise of a "breathing spell" for industry: complete freedom from government interference and domination, and
a fair opportunity for private initiative, energy and genius to take
advantage of the favorable elements in the industrial situation, with
a view to improving business and increasing employment.
Formation of the Federal Surplus Commodities Corp., which may
involve more power over wheat and other agricultural markets
than the Federal Farm Board wielded in its heyday, was disclosed
by Chester C. Davis, administrator of the Agricultural Adjustment
