W W W.HOOD.EDU Class of 2000 Alumna Inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame Melissa Kelly ’00, M.A. ’03 graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology and went on to complete a master of arts degree in human sciences. One of the most decorated women’s basketball players to ever don the Hood colors, Kelly was a four-year starter for the Blazers from 1996-2000. A three-time most outstanding player in the Atlantic Women’s Colleges Conference and four-time all-league selection, she is ranked in the top 10 in program history in numerous statistical categories. An unselﬁsh player who still stands as Hood’s career assists leader, Kelly ranks second all-time in three-point ﬁeld goals, fourth in steals, ﬁfth in scoring, ﬁfth in rebounding and sixth in blocks. During her senior year, Kelly and the Blazers won the AWCC tournament championship after ﬁnishing as the conference runner-up the year before. Following graduation, Kelly continued to pursue her passion for college athletics as an assistant coach and assistant athletic director at Hood. Following a two-year stint as the athletic director at Wesleyan College in Macon, Ga., Kelly returned to Frederick and currently serves as the sports director of Special Olympics Maryland. also on Facebook and would love for all classmates on Facebook to please send me a friend request so we can keep in touch easier across the miles and through the years. On October 21, I welcomed my son, Stone Jackson Pax Chambers, into the world, weighing 5 pounds, 3 ounces. His birth came on the exact one-year anniversary ending date of my America-Canada solo motorcycle trip from Orlando, Fla., to Los Angeles, Calif. Melanie Gorr and her partner Paul Anderson, and daughter Gwen, welcomed their ﬁrst daughter together, Luna Rose Mayhem, July 23, 2009. They live in beautiful Harpers Ferry, W.Va. Aisha Blanchard Collins and her husband Marcus welcomed their baby girl, Elena Lily Collins, into the world April 2, weighing 8 pounds, 13 ounces. Aisha has also recently joined the law ﬁrm of Hunton & Williams as the pro bono fellow, serving indigent clients in juvenile and domestic matters. Jessica Myers Staley and her husband CP welcomed their daughter Hannah Marie July 31, 2008. Jessica recently visited Marylou Wright over Thanksgiving in Miami and celebrated Marylou’s recent engagement to her ﬁancé Kevin! Marylou still resides in Key Largo, Fla., and a ceremony date is forthcoming. In more baby news, Pamela Wilson Colaluca and her husband Brian Colaluca M.S. ’02 were expecting a baby girl Dec. 12. The baby shower was attended by fellow alums Laura Kontes Ames and her son Kevin George, who recently celebrated his one-year birthday; Melanie Gorr and her daughter Luna; Karen Watson ’96, M.S. ’06 and Leslie Smith Scott ’89, M.B.A. ’96. Erin Goley and her wife Erin Reilly were expecting the birth of their little boy Dec. 17. Erin and Erin were married for a second time last fall while samesex marriage was still legal in California. Erin is currently working as a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford Univ. and lives near fellow alum Rachael Dyda ’00. The stork also visited Aimee Nagley-Orndorff, who is pregnant with her ﬁrst child and due in May! Congratulations to all the new Hood mamas! Flor is in the ﬁnal year of ﬁnishing up her master’s degree in international relations. Adelaide Vaal da Silva had her ﬁrst book signing in Cairo, Egypt, Nov. 24 for her debut novel titled “Complete Surrender,” written under her pen name Caroline Anders. Adelaide’s second book, “Meeting Jacob,” will be available in January on amazon.com! Pooja Chawla visited Adelaide in November and Keisha Sykes ’97 spent Easter with Adelaide this year in Cairo. Diana Miriam Guner ’99 recently moved from San Antonio, Texas, to Louisiana. Her new address is 609 Fourth St., Gretna, LA 70053. Congratulations to Jennifer Barbieri, who started a new position as senior space planner for LifeBridge Health in November in Baltimore. Well, the Meyran girls sure have been busy in 2009! Jaime Piper Fontanazza, along with husband Angelo and (new big sister) Ella, welcomed son Tate Angelo March 22, 2009. To round out a year of changes, Jaime is now working at St. Michael’s Country Day School in Easton, Md., as a second grade teacher. Just ﬁve days later, Kathryn Onrubia O’Toole and husband Dave welcomed their fourth—daughter Riley Grace—March 27, 2009, in Annapolis, Md. Riley joins sister Rowan, 4, and brothers Keegan, 8, and Joey, 6. Less than three weeks later, Holly Martin Garver and husband Philip welcomed Chase Martin April 16, 2009, in Frederick. In a very recent wedding, Lea Meyer and Scott Horwath were married Nov. 7, 2009, in the Bahamas. In other news, Lauren Whiting Younker M.S. ’08 earned her master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Hood, proving that even having a 2-year-old at home doesn’t stop a Hood alum!
