growth requires new ideas and talents,
the AEA in 1990 created a scholarship
program to encourage and promote
avionics as a career. In Nashville, more
than $125,000 in scholarships were
awarded to 22 individuals through the
AEA Educational Foundation.
Among this year's awards was the
inaugural Monte Mitchell Memorial Scholarship - named for AEA's
founder - which recognizes a member
technician attending their first AEA
International Convention & Trade
Show. The first such scholarship was
awarded to Keith Hendershot of Hyannis, Mass. Another award of note
was the Chuck Freeland Memorial
Scholarship, a $3,500 award for an
AEA member to pursue their private
pilot's license. The 2014 recipient was
David Sprouse of Murfreesboro, Tenn.
This year's scholarships are the
latest for a program that has awarded
more than $1.5 million to students
pursuing a career in the general aviation maintenance and aircraft electronics industry, helping further the
education of students, technicians
and AEA members. The AEA Educational Foundation continues to identify and reward individuals who best
exemplify the qualities leading to
success in the aviation industry.
But what about recognizing those
who already are in the industry? Is
there some other kind of award, perhaps designed to commend companies or individuals who have made
