ponents can talk to each other and share data between the certified devices behind the panel,” Hayden said. “So, when we talk about integrating the display, integrating the GPS, integrating sensors like traffic or other capabilities, we put it all together to present it seamlessly to the pilot and improve their interpretation of all the discrete sensor information into one unified display. “Our Connected Panel now extends that reach outside of the installed devices into off-board de-

vices. It allows you to synchronize data from outside of the certified avionics environment created on an iPad or iPhone, flight planning, for example, with the aircraft’s certified integrated systems. The synchronization of data, or the two-way communication between mobile devices and the certified avionics is the real differentiator of the Connected Panel product line. “Several point solutions are coming on to the market that provide a single function, such as GPS position out from the panel. Connected’s ability to provide real-time two-way communication – or synchronization – between

the uncertified devices and panelmount avionics makes this solution unique in the industry.” Going Beyond Flight Planning Of course, iPad-based flight planning is just the beginning of the benefits Aspen and its Connected Panel partner companies are creating. “Everybody talks about the flight planning aspect, because that’s the most obvious application,” Hayden said. “But, the really exciting part of this is what is going to be built in the future that we and our application development partners have not yet thought of. “Just like we’ve seen the rise of all these different applications for the iPad – many I don’t think people could have dreamt of in the beginning. I think we’ll see the same type of proliferation of new applications for aviation. As the platform, the Connected Panel will basically enable all that.” Currently, Aspen counts more than 20 other hardware and software provider companies on its growing Connected Panel team. “We (Evolution displays) are actually a very natural point for other devices to be able to exchange data with the certified avionics installed in the panel,” Hayden explained. “When you look over our partner list, and obviously we can’t talk about all the things our Connected partners are going to be building, but if you look at JPI, Avidyne, Honeywell and PS Engineering for example, you can just imagine what they are going to be building that will connect either through our display side or the Connected Panel side to leverage this new architecture.”
