e hope that everyone
is continuing to be
well.
Summer is here, which
brings sunshine and raises the
spirit! We are excited to have
our " Dolly & Me, By the Sea "
annual convention in Baltimore
in July! In partnering with the
convention for this issue you will
find articles from shell dolls to a
delightful article on pirate dolls by
Rhoda Seidenberg to get or keep you in the mood.
The " theme " set for this issue was " Back to
Nature " and I thank all the authors who took up
the challenge for this issue. All kinds of topics,
from leather to metal to paper are covered as
well as materials used for wigs and hands.
Even our paper doll " Elswyth " created by artist
Victoria Christopherson, depicts a wooden doll!
Some of the " odder " natural materials dolls have
been made of are featured in our Back to Nature
Alphabet. By the end of the article you will be
left wondering " how (or perhaps why) did they
do that? "
Did you know Steiff used wood for some of their
items? Hard Knocks, written by Rebekah Kaufman,
has the information. The rare Hoseley Party Dolls
are the topic chosen by Jane Foster. " Natch!, " by
Ian Price, takes us into the modern realm. We
take another look at Hollywood through Woolsey
Ackerman's Rebecca article.
One club even took up the challenge of
combining information for a couple of articles when
they could not meet in person. Thank you Battle
Creek Area Doll Club of Michigan for interesting
information. Look for the " We invite you to share
your dolls and knowledge " section that will stir up
some ideas for you or your club to try.
Continue to be safe and well. So go grab that
doll or two and sit down and enjoy this magazine.
