focused on the Gulf Coast. This
demand is expected to steadily increase
over the next five years as there is $18
billion to be invested in planned LNG
facilities in Texas and Louisiana,"
assesses Andrew Folse, oil and gas
analyst at GlobalData. "Furthermore,
an additional $7.9 billion is related to
announced facilities, which could
further increase natural gas demand."
Given the Haynesville play's
proximity to the Gulf Coast, Folse says
its natural gas output will have easy
access to market, specifically to LNG
plants that will depend on gas produced
in the region.
The Haynesville Shale covers 9,000
square miles across Northwest
Louisiana and East Texas. Folse points
out in 2018 the most active production
areas were in De Soto, Caddo, Red
River and Bossier parishes in Louisiana
and San Augustine County in Texas.
According to GlobalData, because
the Haynesville hydrocarbons are found
from 10,500 feet to 14,000 feet-deeper
than in most other shale gas
formations-companies initially found
the play less feasible to extract shale gas
with the technology they had at the
time. However, it reports, ensuing

Gas Storage Levels
Decrease By 86 Bcf
WASHINGTON-Underground
natural gas storage in the United States
stood at 3.609 trillion cubic feet on Nov.
22, 0.9% below the five year average,
according to the U.S. Energy
Information Administration. That was
down 86 billion cubic feet from the
3.695 Tcf in storage on Oct. 25, which
was 1.4% above the five-year average.
The Nov. 22 storage number was 545
Bcf more than a year ago, when gas
storage stood at 3.064 Tcf.
According to EIA, gas storage in the
East Region was 894 Bcf on Nov. 22,
2.4% above the five-year average, but
19 Bcf less than on Oct. 25, when
storage stood at 913 Bcf, which was
2.0% above the five-year average. East
Region gas storage on Nov. 22 was 112
Bcf more than it was a year ago.

Gas storage in the Midwest Region
stood at 1.052 Tcf on Nov. 22, 0.3%
below the five-year average and 43 Bcf
less than the 1.095 Tcf in storage on
Oct. 25, which was 3.6% above the five
year average. Nov. 22 gas storage in the
Midwest Region was 111 Bcf more than
a year ago.
In the Mountain Region, EIA says,
gas storage was 204 Bcf on Nov. 22,
1.9% below the five-year average and 7
Bcf less than the 211 Bcf stored on Oct.
25, which was right on the five yearaverage. Gas storage in the Mountain
Region was 33 Bcf more than a year ago.
Gas storage in the Pacific Region
was 293 Bcf on Nov. 22, 9.3% below
the five-year average and 5 Bcf less than
the 298 Bcf stored on Oct. 25, which
was 8.0% below the five-year average.
Pacific Region gas storage on Nov. 22
was up 38 Bcf from a year ago.
In the South-Central Region, gas
storage levels on Nov. 22 were 1.166
Tcf, 1.4% below the five-year average
and down 12 Bcf from the 1.178 Tcf in
storage on Oct. 25, which was 1.9%
above the five-year average. The Nov.
22 gas storage level for the SouthCentral Region was up 251 Bcf from a
year ago. ❒
