was announced at the FWSA Convention in
Indian Wells.
For many reasons, Steamboat Ski Resort
is a very popular destinations and is consistently named a top ten resort in North America by Forbes, USA Today and many other
publications. Located in northwest Colorado's
Yampa Valley, Steamboat is known not only for

dedication to providing family friendly programs for family members of all ages and ability levels. It offers an authentic western town,
a rich cultural heritage, and is famous for its
genuine western hospitality. A wide variety of
lodging and restaurants are available, and it
offers numerous opportunities to participate in
unique and fun activities in the great outdoors.
You can even ski for free with an Olympian!
FWSA is fortunate to have Billy Kidd, Director of Skiing at Steamboat, as a long-time
friend. Billy, a Silver Medalist at the 1964
Winter Olympics, has attended our Convention year after year for decades. Although, Billy
Kidd initially wasn't from Steamboat, he has
lived there for nearly 50 years. Steamboat Ski
and Resort Corporation has recognized the importance of Billy Kidd by erecting a bronze
statue of Billy at the main mountain base.
Steamboat has produced more winter
Olympians than any other resort in the United
States. It sent athletes to all but two Winter
Olympic games (1928 and 1936), and since
1948, at least one Olympic athlete has been
from Steamboat at each of the Winter Olympics, boasting a total of 104 Olympians.
Steamboat has been a devoted supporter
of the Far West Ski Association, having donated ski vacation packages to the annual Convention Silent Auction for the past 34 years.
Additionally, Steamboat has been a long-time
sponsor of the traditional Convention's Thursday evening Pub Crawl, including this year's
convention in Indian Wells.
Steamboat has been a sponsor for the Far
West Ski Association's Western Ski Heritage
program since 2000. This program raises skier
and non-skier awareness of the contributions
made by individuals, groups and all aspects of
skiing, competitive as well as outdoor winter
recreation and fitness. A parallel purpose of
this award is to convey the positive role skiing
has had in its contributions to the communities in the west.
For its outstanding support of the skiing
public, the local community and the Far West
Ski Association, club and councils, Steamboat
Ski and Resort Corporation is certainly deserving of recognition as this year's recipient of the
Tommi Tyndall Award. ss
