Its basic hydraulic pilot joystick
controls, with only essential electrical
components, simplify operation and
routine maintenance.
It's also quiet, with a low
noise-emission level of 85 dBA at the
operator's ear and guaranteed sound
power of 104 dBA.
Vermeer's new D40x55DR S3 Navigator HDD has the same low noise
level, and delivers excellent productivity in broad-range ground conditions - from hard, medium and
soft rock, to loamy/dirt and clay.
It features Vermeer dual-rod technology that cuts the time and steps required to add or remove a
rod by 30 percent, compared to previous Vermeer models.
Powered by a 140-horsepower John Deere diesel engine, the D40x55DR S3 delivers 40,000
pounds of thrust/pullback and 5,500 foot-pounds of rotational torque. It can carry 500 feet of drill
rods onboard, and has a carriage speed of 115 fpm.
The newest tooling option for dual rod-directional drills was developed in conjunction with this
HDD. Vermeer's RH15 rock drill head, can handle 1,500 foot-pounds of inner rod torque for pilot production. It is designed to give operators excellent steering control and sonde security using a proven
roll pin lid. The RH15 rock drill head is affordably priced and can be rebuilt in the field.
Also on display was the new Vermeer Navigator HDD simulator, which gives utility companies and
contractors a cost-effective, virtual, hands-on way of training crew members.
