three dates in 2020 to open to expanded
Sunday hunting, either in the tail-end of
the 2019-20 license year or the first six
months of the 2020-21 license year.
An update will be reported in Game
News as soon as possible after the new
Sunday hunting opportunity is selected.
Senate Bill 147's Nov. 18 passage in
the state Senate follows an Oct. 29 passage
in the state House of Representatives by a
144-54 vote. The bill was amended prior
to passing the House to require all hunters
on private land on Sundays to carry
written permission from the landowner.
Game Commission Executive
Director Bryan Burhans said the
General Assembly's vote to increase
Sunday hunting opportunity is a win for
Pennsylvania's hunters, who long have
been prohibited by state law from hunting
anything but foxes, coyotes and crows on
Sundays during open seasons.
"People today tend to lead busy lives,
and hunters are no exception," Burhans
said. "No matter how badly a hunter
might want to get out and enjoy the
outdoors during hunting season, other
responsibilities might take priority and
make it difficult.

"Providing opportunity to experience
hunting on previously closed Sundays
has game-changing potential for hunters
with tight schedules and, in many cases,
will make a difference by enabling those
hunters to hunt alongside their children,
setting them on a path they'll follow the
rest of their lives," Burhans said. "To Sen.
Dan Laughlin, who introduced Senate Bill
147, and to all of those who supported
it and helped to make it a reality, please
accept a heartfelt thank you on behalf
of the Game Commission and hunters
statewide.
Laughlin said the legislation will create
opportunities for tens of thousands of
working families across Pennsylvania.
"I believe this has been a long time
in coming and is truly a tribute to the
thousands of hunters and the many
organizations who have supported this
effort," he said. "Weekends are essentially
the only time that most working men
and women can get out into the woods.
The same could be said for many young
people, the ones who represent the future
of the sport. Lifting the ban will give
them increased opportunities to pursue
the activity that they love."

Game Commission is recruiting 33rd State Game Warden Cadet Class.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission is recruiting the 33rd class of State Game Warden
Cadets at its Ross Leffler School of Conservation In Harrisburg.
The state Office of Administration will begin accepting applications from prospective
cadets in late January.

The class will report for training in March
2021 and graduate in 2022.
