Kellogg, Symrise working to
source vanilla responsibly
Kellogg Co., Battle Creek, Mich., and Symrise, which has a
US office in Teterboro, NJ, have entered a three-year project in
Madagascar to responsibly source Kellogg's vanilla.
Kellogg in 2019 joined the "Symrise and Friends" family of
private sector partners who work together to deliver benefits
for vanilla farming communities and the environment. Kellogg Co. has experience in Climate Smart Agriculture, a program that addresses food security and climate challenges.
"Responsibly sourcing our ingredients means making
a difference from the very start," said Amy Senter, chief
sustainability officer for Kellogg. "That's why we're working closely with the farmers who
grow them. Farmers like those in
Madagascar aren't just growing vanilla for people around the world.
They're cultivating healthy soils,
diverse ecosystems and strong communities, and across Kellogg, we
want to help them do even more."

every day to foster good agricultural practices and budget/
cash flow management. The approach includes training and

Glanbia Nutritionals acquires
flavors company in Canada

Glanbia Nutritionals, Chicago, a subsidiary of Glanbia
PLC, has acquired Foodarom, a custom flavor designer
and manufacturer. Foodarom offers a flavor library of
more than 15,000 recipes and produces both liquid and
powder products for the food, beverage and nutritional
product industries. Based in Montreal, Foodarom has
additional production facilities in Salt Lake City and Bremen, Germany. The company also operates culinary laboratories in San Diego and Milan, Italy.
"We recently shared our ambition to scale the flavors
area of our business, and we are very pleased to announce this acquisition of Foodarom," said Brian Phelan,
chief executive officer of Glanbia Nutritionals. "We are

DFA offers e-commerce platform
for small manufacturers

DFA Ingredient Solutions, a business unit of Kansas
City, Kan.-based Dairy Farmers of America, has introduced an e-commerce store that allows manufacturers
to order smaller quantities of its dairy ingredients. The
platform initially will feature dairy-based ingredients, including seasoning blends, specialty powders and concentrated pastes. Food manufacturers may purchase as little
as 50-lb bags of specialty powders and seasoning blends,
and a 45-lb box of the concentrated pastes.
"We receive many requests from small food manufacturers for specialty ingredients that deliver flavor and
texture benefits associated with dairy into their products," said Carol Willenbring, vice president of marketing and R&D for ingredient solutions. "Our response to
these inquiries was to develop an online experience to
give these companies access to the same, highly-rated
dairy ingredients that leading brands and larger food
manufacturers have come to expect from us."

GEA expands services,
equipment to milling industry

GEA, Columbia, Md., has launched an initiative to provide
equipment and services to North American grain processors. A 2017 acquisition of Pavan Group, specifically its
Golfetto Sangati subsidiary, provided the groundwork
for the initiative. Golfetto Sangati provides expertise and
equipment for wheat, corn, rice and feed mills as well as
unloading and storage systems for raw material and finished products.
"We'll be able to provide US and Canadian milling customers with everything from
a single piece of equipment
to a full turnkey greenfield
facility," said Connor Henley,
North American sales manager, GEA Golfetto Sangati.
"Long recognized for its
expertise in mill design and
equipment, the company has
a large base of customer installations throughout the world. We want to offer our advanced technology to millers throughout the region. GEA's
already strong position as a supplier to the food industry
in North America is key in this respect."
Mr. Henley joined the company in March. He previously was mill superintendent for ADM Milling, a business
of Archer Daniels Midland Co., at facilities in Spokane,
Wash., and New Braunfels, Texas.
GEA also recently introduced the HP-55 Purifier, which
consists of four decks of superimposed sieves, each with
four airflow adjustment points. The compact design reduces the footprint in the mill. The synthesis roller mill has
been redesigned. Its modular construction makes a range
of roll combinations possible. The machine may be divided
into two sections.
