EVOQ Architecture :
la rencontre du passé et du présent
Si une nouvelle ambassade ou une bibliothèque présidentielle représentent
une interprétation contemporaine de l'histoire, la restauration du vaste
complexe de la Colline du Parlement à Ottawa pourrait sembler un défi plus
simple, bien que de longue durée. Le complexe que constituent les multiples
bâtiments du Parlement, d'abord construits en 1867 en prévision de l'accès
du pays à son indépendance de la Grande-Bretagne, est en cours de
restauration, immeuble par immeuble, dans un processus de construction
échelonné sur plus d'une décennie.
Au cœur de la Colline du Parlement se trouve l'édifice du Centre (qui
abrite ces icônes que sont la tour de la Paix, la Chambre des communes,
et le Sénat), flanqué de l'édifice de l'Ouest et de l'édifice de l'Est de part et
d'autre (sites des bureaux administratifs et lieux de réunions). Mais
avant que le travail de restauration de l'édifice du Centre puisse commencer,
le gouvernement a dû se doter d'une salle temporaire dans laquelle les
législateurs de la Chambre des communes allaient se réunir pour débattre
des questions de la journée pendant la construction. Cela représentait une
exceptionnelle occasion de design et tout un défi pour EVOQ Architecture
et son équipe de collaborateurs : une grande Chambre provisoire dans la
cour centrale ovale de l'édifice de l'Ouest.

et menuiseries modernes
se rencontrent dans
l'enceinte de verre
de la chambre de
vote provisoire dans
le complexe de la
Colline du Parlement.
