Chapter 6A-21 "A" Visa Status Policy If a Passport is presented If an application informs an RMV clerk that the applicant has an "A" visa status, or if the clerk determines from a review of the identification documents the applicant presents that the applicant has an "A" visa status, the applicant must present an original letter issued by the Office of Foreign Missions (OFM) that is no more than 60 days old authorizing the person to obtain a Massachusetts license. If the applicant does not have the required authorizing letter, the clerk must reject the application and provide the applicant with a completed rejection form indicating the following: "the applicant is the holder of an "A" visa but did not present an original letter from the U.S. Office of Foreign Missions (OFM) authorizing a Massachusetts Driver's License." If a Department of State License is presented If the applicant presents and attempts to convert a Driver's License issued by OFM, the RMV clerk must... 1. Inform applicant that OFM Driver Licenses cannot be converted to a Massachusetts Driver's License. 2. Inform the applicant that he/she must: * Take a written and road test and otherwise qualify for a Massachusetts license and, * Provide an original letter from the OFM to the "A" visa applicant authorizing the person to obtain a Massachusetts license. 3. Provide the applicant with a completed Rejection Form indicating the following: "the applicant is the holder of an "A" visa but did not present an original letter from the U.S. Office of Foreign Missions (OFM) authorizing a Massachusetts Driver's License." 05/09 6A:94
