harvest underway
Combining of soft red winter wheat was advancing
across the Delta states and South. The harvest was
furthest along in Louisiana, where the combining of the
state's small crop was 52% completed by May 24, well
ahead of the ﬁve-year average pace at 22%. Combining
was 49% completed in Georgia, 11% in South Carolina,
20% in Alabama, 1% in Mississippi and 1% in Arkansas.

Meanwhile, wheat heading across the key

PORTLAND, ORE. - Allied
Market Research forecast the
global gluten-free products
market to have a 7.2% compound annual growth rate
from 2020 to 2027, growing to
$7.5 billion from $4.3 billion in
2019. An increase in the number of people with celiac disease and gluten intolerance will
fuel the growth as will demand
from millennials, improved
marketing activities and enhanced distribution channels.
Allied Market Research valued
the gluten-free bakery products segment at $2.5 billion in
2019 and forecast the segment
to reach $4.2 billion by 2027
through a CAGR of 6.7%. The
gluten-free baby food segment
is expected to have the highest
CAGR at 10.5%.

of Protein Waffles. The NonGMO Project verified waffles

Lotus ups stakes
in bar maker
EMBEKE, BELGIUM - Lotus Bakeries has reached an
agreement to acquire most of
the remaining stake in Natural
Balance Foods (NBF), a British
company that offers fruit and
nut bars sold under the Nakd
and Trek brands. As part of
the transaction, Lotus said it
acquired the majority of the
NBF's founders' (brothers Jamie and Greg Combs) remaining stake, giving Lotus 97.9%
ownership. The Combs will
continue to own 2.1% of NBF
and remain on the company's
board as advisers, Lotus said.
