Scott's brother, David, is also an agent who
understands the importance of his role in helping
farmers stay farming. " A lot of people depend on
agriculture in this area and it's important as an
agent to keep them protected, " David said. " Because
as any farmer knows, or anybody in the ag
industry knows, there is going to be a year where
it is going to be bad. And my job is to keep them
in business and keep the industry going. "
Colton Geiger, a field marketing representative,
enjoys working with insurance agents to
make sure they understand the latest products
and the changes in the industry. He comes from
a farming family.
" I think the work really matters in terms of
working with farmers and making sure that they
can keep farming for years to come, " he said.
" Something that I grew up with, you know, in
my family, just carrying that farming tradition on
down the line. "

Mike Schmidt is a busy man. He farms, owns a
commercial trucking company, and sells crop insurance.
But growing crops is his passion. " I like planting the
crops. I like watching them grow, " Mike said. " I can't
see me doing anything else. " But just like most farmers,
the risks are too great to handle on his own. " Crop
insurance takes the edge off of everything. I call it a
sleep factor. You can go to sleep at night knowing you
have crop insurance. That's my biggest thing. "

Michael and John Sahr are fifth and sixth
generation Michigan farmers growing organic
row crops on a farm that has been in their
family for more than 130 years. " Farming
isn't for the faint of heart, " John said. " With
the risks that are out there you have to
be prepared and that's why we carry crop
insurance. " Crop insurance is important to
the family, so much so that Michael became
an agent many years ago. " In 1986 we had 27
inches of rain on this flat land in 21 days, " said
Michael. " Two years later, we got the largest
drought we ever had in 1988 and the rest is
history. Crop insurance has been so important
for the farmers to keep them floating and
that's why I became an agent. "
