around the world are facing additional challenges
amid climate change, it is hoped that the ideas
shared during the program will stimulate more
targeted efforts toward enhancing existing products
and developing new solutions. In particular,
as earth observation capabilities have been rapidly
developing, the efforts should include continuing
to design index products that fill the existing
gaps in insurance coverage for various crops and
locations around the world.⁸
In addition to the presentations, bilateral
meetings were held and there were several
networking opportunities. On the first day,
participants were treated to a welcoming dinner
in a popular restaurant in downtown Istanbul
(Figure 3). On the last day, the guests
were entertained by live music during the gala
dinner at the hotel. At the end of the congress,
the participants enjoyed a boat trip on the
Bosphorus (Figure 4) and had a lunch featurFigure

ing Turkish specialties. Overall, participants
seemed to enjoy meeting in person again.
In the end, the 36th Congress of AIAG in
Istanbul, Turkey turned out to be a memorable
one. The AIAG, TARSIM, sponsors, participants
and speakers, and support staff all
contributed to the success of the congress.
The next meeting will be held in Geneva,
Switzerland, November 12-15, 2023. Mark
