HOUSING
May is Older Americans Month
and at AHEPA 245 I-II Senior
Apartments, Newport, R.I., residents
celebrated the month's
theme of " Age My Way " by
demonstrating their creativity
and by holding an ice cream
social.
Houston residents at Penelope 54 Senior
Apartments enjoyed a few rounds of Bingo
in April.
Bingo benefits older adults in many
ways. It helps them maintain hand-eye coordination
and takes concentration, which
improves memory skills and listening. It also
promotes socialization.
The Garden Club at AHEPA 310-IV
Senior Apartments in Saraland, Ala.,
created fairy gardens at the community.
The residents planted beautiful succulents
and chose whimsical accessories
to create their magical fairy gardens.
There are many benefits of having a
succulent plant in the home. Succulents,
like aloe and snake plants, are particularly
good at removing toxins from the
air. They have been used throughout
history to treat cuts, burns, stomachaches,
and more. Studies reveal that
having a succulent plant nearby boosts
concentration and that taking care of
houseplants reduces stress and blood
pressure and improves mood.
