The global men’s grooming market saw manufacturers’
sales grow by nearly 4% in 2012 to $13.4bn, according to
market-research group Kline & Company. The category is
expected to reach sales of $15.5bn by 2017. The market in
Europe saw increases in the low single-digits, while in Asia,
the established male-grooming markets in South Korea and
Japan, coupled with the newer markets in India and China,
are driving category growth. In South Korea alone, male
grooming sales saw
more than 10% growth
in 2012.
L’Oréal’s brands lead
across Asia with the
exception of Japan,
where Mandom
(Gatsby) holds the
largest market share
and L’Oréal comes
in third. In South
Korea, HERA Homme
(Amore Pacific) is the
leading brand. Kline
predicts Asia will see
the strongest growth
globally through 2017.

A snapshot of the latest market facts, figures and trends
Spa and wellness facilities reported a close-to-zero increase
in business in 2012 over 2011, according to the International
Wellness & Spa Tourism Monitor 2013 Report from the Tourism
Observatory for Health, Wellness and Spa. However, the growth
of first-time local customers visiting spas was promising and
average revenue per customer grew at a higher rate than the
number of treatments sold.
Spas are set to see a 2% increase in the number of customers
and first-time customers in 2013 and tourists are expected
to drive most of this growth. The Americas and Australia
are predicted to see a strong year in terms of customer
growth, while Asia is forecast to stagnate in 2013 in terms of
treatments sold. Lifestyle-oriented programs and treatments are
expected to grow at a rate of more than 10% in 2013.
