WE'VE ALL HEARD THE SAYING: Your network
is your net worth.
Despite the old adage's current meme
status, there's a lot of truth to it. Studies have
found a direct relationship between a person's
network, their salary, and their overall career
satisfaction. It also leads to professional
opportunities, priceless insights, and new
perspectives. Fostering relationships in an open
network often plays a huge role in a person's
success, both professionally and socially, as the
relationships you build in the former often
become invaluable to the latter. (Who doesn't
love a work bestie?)
Does networking feel like a chore?
Sometimes, absolutely. But so can school, and
social capital is nearly as indicative of future
career success as a solid education.
SAE International supports the careers of
young professionals in many ways, one of which
is the offering of networking opportunities
throughout the year. From its Chat with the
Experts series to its Mentor Program,
opportunities abound. SAE also hosts some of
industry's biggest events, many of which
include student-expert networking as part of its
