IDENIX PHARMACEUTICALS
Idenix Pharmaceuticals announced that its drug, IDX719, was granted a Fast Track designation by the FDA. IDX719, an NS5A inhibitor, is designed to treat chronic Hepatitis C virus infection in patients. The Fast Track designation will enable them to shave precious time off its predicted timeline for a new drug application.

GBI RESEARCH
According to a new report by GBI Research, international pharmaceutical companies are increasingly outsourcing clinical trials to countries in Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe. The study states that with squeezed research and development budgets, big pharma is finding greater value in employing contract research organizations in emerging nations for the management of clinical trials.

THOMSON REUTERS
The Intellectual Property and Science division of Thomson Reuters announced that Inova Software joined its Partner Ecosystem for Life Sciences, an exclusive group of organizations focused on meeting the business needs of joint customers by working together to provide tightly integrated solutions. Thomson Reuters also announced that GenoSpace joined its Life Sciences Partner Ecosystem. The companies will work together to develop an integrated product offering for the analysis and interpretation of human genomic variation.

WORKERS COMPENSATION RESEARCH INSTITUTE
As states around the country debate or adopt new regulations to limit the prices paid for doctor-dispensed drugs, a new study from the Workers Compensation Research Institute (WCRI) says the regulations reduce costs, but are unlikely to reduce patient access to pharmaceuticals.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness will honor DuPont for its commitment to advancing mental health with the Seeds of Hope award. DuPont created the ICU Mental Health program to improve employee understanding of mental health issues and the overall emotional health of the organization. JPL, an integrated communications company, created a presentation, facilitator guide and eLearning course to educate employees about the program.

DIA and the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association (HBA) announced a new collaboration to advance the careers of women involved in the regulatory, medical, legal and compliance functions of healthcare. The associations will embark on a multi-year initiative called the DIA/HBA Leadership Project.
