your healthcare coverage. Use the information below to make informed decisions.
6 Months Before Turning 65:
n Explore the different parts of Medicare. Read about Part A, B, D, and Medigap and costs
n Understand your enrollment options. There are only certain times when you can enroll in
Medicare
n Attend a Roadmap to Medicare Class at the Council on Aging - Southern California

Compare plans for coverage packages - Calculate costs per month/year for:
n Premiums
n Deductibles

3 Months Before Turning 65: Choose your coverage:
n Original Medicare
n Medicare Advantage Plan

n: Do I have to choose hospital and healthcare providers from a network?
n Will my doctors accept Medicare coverage? If not, are there doctors near me that will?
n Will I need referrals to visit a specialist?
n What will my prescription costs be and are my drugs on the plan formulary?
n Does the plan have a good quality rating?

Sign up for Medicare Through Social Security:
n Enroll in Part A during your Initial Enrollment Period
n Enroll in Part B unless you are eligible for a special enrollment period
