Tziporah Salomon was born at a time when
elegance was the order of the day. Her parents,
both Holocaust survivors, sewed for a living. Her
father was a sought-after tailor, and her mother
was a stylish and accomplished dressmaker. After
the war, her family emigrated to Israel and then
to New York. This was a time in the 1950's where
women wore dresses, high heels, and red lipstick.
Her parents sewed her clothes ensuring she was a
well-dressed child and developed into an equally
well-dressed teenager and young adult. She
devoured fashion magazines and emulated the
looks she found there. She began working after
school and started to buy extra clothes, choosing
each garment to suit the sophisticated image she
wanted to impart.
After graduating with a degree in English
literature, Tziporah obtained her masters degree
in education from UC Santa Barbara. She taught
at Berkeley High school where her students told
her the only reason they came to class was to see
what she was wearing! Then Tziporah started to
question her career choice. She started viewing
dressing as an artist views a painting, and realized
she was an artist. She decided to change careers
and returned to New York to pursue a career in
fashion.
Tziporah found a job in a boutique that sold
antique clothes. She soaked in their beauty. She
worked in retail sales at Barneys of New York and
then became a fashion stylist. Subsequently, she
began collecting hats, attending vintage fashion
shows, and buying from vendors that brought her
special items. She amassed a treasure of priceless
clothing and textiles. She did some modeling and
was a regular feature in the New York Times
Style Section, photographed by the legendary
fashion photographer, Bill Cunningham.

In the fall of 2000, Tziporah met a gifted
fashion designer who taught at the Parsons
School of Continuing Education. She exclaimed
that Tziporah was a " work of art " and asked
her to teach a class. This became the start of
Tziporah's course the " Art of Dressing. " By 2005,
she created a one woman show, and then wrote
her autobiography called " The Fabric of My Life. "
The threads of her life were finally being woven
into a complete tapestry.
Tziporah believes that " Dressing is an artistic
endeavor with you as the artist, your eyes as your
brush, and your clothes and accessories as the
paints. " Most importantly, according to Tziporah,
" You can feel good about yourself knowing that
you are doing a small part in making this a more
beautiful world. "
