Built on Ibbotson research, Morningstar® EnCorr® integrates capital markets data with tools for asset allocation and investment policy planning. Institutional investors, including portfolio managers, private banks, and consultants, use the software to develop and implement asset allocation strategies that generate optimal returns at varying risk levels. Clients are welcome to join in-person and online training sessions, delivered in multiple languages and across time zones. EnCorr helps develop a reliable set of expectations for returns, risk, and correlations as inputs. Hundreds of global indexes represent a broad range of asset classes for appropriate benchmarking. A choice of methodologies is available for developing and testing capital markets assumptions, including the Black-Litterman model. Investment professionals can also introduce their own insights and probability-weighted inputs. Central research teams can easily share updatable or rights-protected capital markets assumptions with colleagues. Multiple optimization techniques include liability modeling for managing the natural hedge between assets and liabilities. Risk budgeting reveals the percent risk each asset class contributes to an allocation’s overall risk profile. For more realistic wealth forecasting in volatile markets, EnCorr applies log-stable distribution assumptions to wealth forecasting calculations and returns forecast histograms, resulting in more conservative projections than log-normal distributions.

Fewer asset classes are represented and changes in weights are more extreme, because traditional mean-variance optimization is sensitive to input assumptions.
Test Portfolio After Resampling
More asset classes are included after resampling, which applies Monte Carlo-like simulations to mean-variance optimization to better represent the range of uncertainty an allocation might actually experience.
