Here's how to fix it.

Shelter in place is
a challenging
concept. We
make every effort
to do better
mentally,
emotionally, and
physically. We can't be blamed for being
tempted to abandon our diet and exercise
routines. We gobble-down snack foods
while debilitated by our computers and
television.
How do you prevent weight gain
during these nerve-racking times? Eat a
healthy diet and exercise! It's that simple.
What we eat and drink, and how we
exercise, affect our body's ability to
prevent, fight, and recover from infections.
Healthy diets support immune systems.
Good nutrition reduces the likelihood of
developing other health problems such as
obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and even
some types of cancer.
Healthy diets and exercise also ensure
healthier and more active lives.
Nutritious diets include a variety of
food such as a mix of whole grains,
legumes, plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables,
and seafood. Also foods from animal
sources such as meat, fish, eggs, milk.
For snacks, choose raw vegetables,
fresh fruit, and unsalted nuts.
Focus on consuming moderate
amounts of fats and oils. Replace butter,
ghee, and lard, with healthier fats such as
olive, soy, sunflower, or corn oil, when
cooking.
Select white meats such as poultry and
fish which are generally lower in fats than
red meats. Trim red meats of visible fat and
limit the consumption of processed, baked,
and fried foods. It is also recommended
that you steam or boil instead of frying
food when cooking.
Reduce your consumption of sweets
and sugary drinks such as processed fruit
juices and juice drinks, liquid and powder
concentrates, flavored water, energy and
sports drinks, ready-to-drink tea, coffee,
and flavored milk drinks. Opt for fresh
fruits instead of sweet snacks. Also, good
hydration is crucial for optimal health.

Companies that make snack foods have
had a very good year with sales leaping
more than sixteen percent. The reason?
During lockdowns, we tend to stock up on
comfort foods.
Several months into the lockdown has
resulted in extra pounds for many. Seventysix
percent of us have gained weight, even
as much as sixteen pounds!
Lockdown is a shock to our system,
the challenge of staying home, struggling
with stress, boredom, and the inability to
focus on a radical lifestyle change is
difficult at best.
Then again, some see this as an
opportunity. Not going to the workplace
means no commute time waisted, which
gives them extra time to focus on
exercising and cooking healthy meals -
and losing weight!
Keep in mind, all the usual weight loss
goals still apply, focus on healthy eating,
