NUTRITION MISTAKES
THAT CAN PREVENT
FATLOSS

Nutrition as a
whole is a very
young science that
is ever-evolving.
Every year, a new
study is released,
negating the
findings of the prior
year's study.
However, nutrition
is the one area
where everybody
claims to be an
expert, where an
unhealthy person can advise another on how to be
healthy.
This holds true with many professionals in the
fitness industry, giving advice on a topic in which
they have no formal or practical education and
training. They're trying to help their clients, but in
actuality, may be doing more harm than good.
It's no different when it pertains to fat loss. There
are so many inaccurate recommendations being
spewed to clients, both online and offline, that can in
fact, block one's ability to achieve one primary goal: to
lose body fat. Presented here are mistakes made
within the fitness industry that can block your ability
to lose fat.

Too many times, the first thing people recommend for
losing fat is to reduce fat consumption. This is a huge
mistake. The body requires fat for many reasons.
First, dietary fats are essential for the production of
hormones.
Because most people experience high stress, their
bodies are having difficulty producing hormones,
leading to a myriad of imbalances, all of which affect
one's metabolism. Reducing fat intake only makes
things worse.
Fat is also essential for the absorption of certain
nutrients as well as reducing inflammation, increasing
satiety, and repairing tissue. Adding in good fats such
as raw nuts, omega 3s, olive and coconut oil, and
even egg yolks can increase your fat-burning
potential.

In general, the need for fruit is overemphasized while
the need for vegetables is underemphasized.
Vegetables are the most nutrient dense food group.
They're loaded with fiber, low in sugar and calories,
and in most cases very alkalizing.
Fruit, on the other hand, is high in sugar, which
will create an insulin spike and stimulate the
production of the hunger hormone, leading to
additional cravings. Try reducing fruit intake and
increasing vegetable intake. This may also kick-start
your body into burning more fat.

In most cases, foods deemed as " low calorie " or " diet "
are disastrous for your metabolism. For a food to be
low calorie, diet, sugar-free, or fat-free, it's typically
filled with chemicals that are extremely difficult for
your liver to metabolize, in turn, interfering with your
liver's ability to metabolize fat, hindering fat loss. The
best diet foods are whole and unadulterated.

Though with good intention, many make poor
supplement recommendations to their clients.
Loading up on nutrients can power up your
metabolism and fat-burning capabilities, but the
quality of supplements is in many cases,
questionable.
Many retail brand supplements are derived from
petroleum and coal tar and are not able to be
absorbed by the body. They may deplete the very
nutrient they're trying to replace because through
synthetic processing, many of the cofactors and
synergists needed for absorption are absent.
Also, without proper lab testing, it's very difficult
to know what your is deficient in, potentially leading
to greater issues. An example is that of recommending
calcium to someone deficient in magnesium. This
could further throw off mineral balance, leading to
greater bone loss.

Popcorn, rice cakes, protein, and other snack bars, as
well as most sports and energy drinks are terrible for
shedding fat. They're highly processed and full of
chemicals and stimulants that can send a less than
healthy individual into a metabolic tailspin.
Healthy alternatives might be a quality protein
powder, such as a non-denatured whey concentrate,
or raw nuts or nut butters, celery, carrots, flax seed
crackers, and hummus. Again, whole foods make the
best snack.

It's okay to not know, as long as you know what you
don't know, and refer out. As mentioned, so many
fitness professionals have very little formal education
in nutrition, especially when it relates to healing
metabolic disorders.
Recommending energy drinks to someone with
severe adrenal fatigue or thyroid imbalances can
exacerbate those conditions.
If you're training hard and eating clean, but still
not achieving fat loss, seeking out a professional with
training in functional or clinical nutrition may be the
best thing for you.
Making nutrition recommendations without
proper nutrition education does a great disservice to
anyone, potentially doing more harm than good. To
truly help someone, either invest in education, or
partner with someone who already has formal training
in functional or clinical nutrition. Z

popcorn factories. The
condition is caused by
a toxic chemical called
diacetyl, which comes
from butter.
Diacetyl enters the air
and lungs when
microwave popcorn is
cooked. In 2007, when
a regular microwave
popcorn eater came
down with popcorn
lung, microwave
popcorn
manufacturers
replaced diacetyl from
their products with
other chemicals that
have the same
crippling effects.
Better to be safe than
sorry, so stick to airpopped
popcorn for
your movie snack.
