Off-boarding: The process of helping an employee depart
from the company after their termination, resignation,
or retirement in order to ensure a smooth transition
and to gauge their experience with the organization. At
minimum, off-boarding involves an exit interview.
Onboarding: The process of introducing a new hire to the
company and providing them with the tools and training
needed to succeed in the job.
Quality of hire: The current and future effectiveness
of a new hire and the extent to which they meet the
requirements of a vacancy. Quality of hire can be diffi cult
to measure and involves not only a new employee's ability
to accomplish daily tasks but also what they add to the
company culturally and strategically.
Robotic process automation (RPA): A form of clerical
automation that applies technology, such as software
robots, to interpret the actions performed on a user
interface and execute steps identically to a human
user. Unlike traditional automated tools, they are
confi gured using demonstrative steps rather than being
programmed using code-based instructions.
RPO: The use of an external provider who performs some
or all of the corporate recruiting and staffi ng functions on
an outsourced basis.
Software as a service (SaaS): A software licensing and
delivery model that requires a subscription for access.
Search engine optimization (SEO): A strategy that
leverages keywords to positively impact the visibility of a
website or make it easier to fi nd on search engines.
Service level agreement (SLA): Contractual clauses
governing specifi c parameters, deliverables, and
measurable goals that the providers and clients will realize
during the term of service.
Sourcing: A talent acquisition function that focuses on
identifying, screening, assessing, and eventually engaging
qualifi ed job candidates via proactive recruiting tactics.
Time to fi ll: The amount of time it takes to fi ll a job
vacancy with a qualifi ed candidate from the time that
the position becomes available.
Total workforce solution (TWS): An approach wherein a
single provider recruits and manages all workers types,
including full-time and contingent labor.
User experience (UX): The experience of a customer, job
seeker, or user of an app, website, or product as defi ned
by the product's ease of use, practicality, and the feelings
it generates about the company that created it.
