Aerospace The aerospace industry experienced a considerable amount of change in 2009. The economic downturn affected commercial, military, and general aviation, all in different ways. To respond to these changes, key strategic objectives were pursued to ensure that SAE International will continue to serve the aerospace industry in the most effective and productive way possible, and be the “go-to” aerospace society for organizations and people around the globe. In 2009, SAE International developed a plan that will enable the organization to: • Increase the number of SAE Fellows from the aerospace sector by proactively identifying aerospace members and submitting nominations for those qualified. 6 2009 Annual Report • Expand the sector’s award program offerings to ensure a vibrant and comprehensive selection of awards. • Attract new standards work from regulatory agencies, leading manufacturers, and key industry groups. • Develop strategic partnerships with regulatory agencies to address issues that are critical to the aerospace community. • Create a program to increase the number of non-U.S. participants who serve on SAE International boards and committees. • Finalize plans to hold the 2011 SAE AeroTech Congress and Exhibition in Toulouse, France with Airbus serving as host company.
