Of course, this is a very challenging subject, which poses
several questions and open issues to be solved. Nowadays,
many researchers are strongly involved in the development of
effective AT, and institutions are putting forth huge efforts to
promote an Active and Healthy Ageing Society and to assure
end-users with the deserved quality of life.

Bruno Andò (bruno.ando@unict.it) has been with the Electric,
Electronic and Information Engineering Department
of the University of Catania, Italy since 1999, where he is an
Associate Professor of sensors and advanced instrumentation.
He received the M.S. degree in electronic engineering
and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University
of Catania, Italy in 1994 and 1999, respectively. His
