Garmin Scholarship: Kaiden Forest of Brush Prairie,
Washington, is a student at Portland
Community College in the aviation maintenance
program. He has always been interested
in aviation and working with his hands.
Forest especially loves the avionics and electrical
aspects of aviation maintenance and
works at a local airport after school to gain experience. He
plans to work on the cutting edge of aircraft electrical and
avionics systems.
Johnny Davis Memorial Scholarship:
Joseph Sherwood of Newark Valley,
New York, will attend Mohawk Valley
Community College. In high school, he
earned second-team all-state in football and
was all-state honorable mention and team
captain for football and baseball. Sherwood
was a member of the National Honor Society, High
School Honor Role, and received the Character Choice
Award. He plans to finish at the top of his class and
graduate with an A&P certificate in 2024. Sherwood also
plans to join the workforce with an airline as a technician
and advance in the avionics industry.
Garmin - Jerry Smith Memorial Scholarship:
Isabella Hoerchler of St. Libory, Illinois,
will be a student at Southern Illinois
University-Carbondale majoring in aviation
technologies. In high school, she participated
in cross country and was involved in the
industrial arts department. Hoerchler also
received the Industrial Arts Student Award.
Kent McIntyre Memorial Scholarship: Oliver Watson
of St. George, Utah, is a student at Southern
Utah University in the aviation maintenance
program. He is pursuing his A&P certificate
and plans to finish in the spring of 2024.
Watson also takes avionics training and
plans to pursue a bachelor's degree in
aviation administration and leadership. In addition,
Watson has an associate degree in information technology
from Southern Utah University.
Gene Baker Memorial Scholarship:
Jade Newkirk of Arvada, Colorado, will be
a student at the University of Colorado this
fall after graduating high school in the top
8% of the class and lettering in sports and
academics. Newkirk will study business
and plans to pursue a career in real estate
and entrepreneurship.
Kevin Miesbach Memorial Scholarship:
Lauren Peck of South Williamsport, Pennsylvania,
is attending Pennsylvania College of
Technology. She is on the dean's list,
has a 4.0 grade point average, was the
Pennsylvania College Awesome Woman
Exemplar and received the Air Force
Achievement medal. Upon graduation, her
goal is to commission in the U.S. Air Force as a combat
systems officer. Peck plans to serve in the Air National
Guard while pursuing a career in avionics as a civilian.
Gogo Business Aviation Scholarship:
Sarah Michalak of Cary, Illinois, is a
student at Southern Illinois UniversityCarbondale.
She recently gave a TED Talk
on aviation and the pilot shortage, taking
her school's AAAE chapter to the national
conference for the first time in several years
and was elected vice president of the school's AAAE
and Alpha Eta Rho chapters. Michalak earned academic
honors in the SIU School of Aviation twice. She aspires
to earn a C.M. through AAAE during her senior year and
intern internationally with either an airport or airline.
Lee Tarbox Memorial Scholarship sponsored by
Pacific Southwest Instruments:
Kyle Stengel of Watertown, South Dakota,
is a student at Lake Area Technical College
in the aviation maintenance program. After
graduation, he plans to attain a maintenance
position working on helicopters. Stengel
has been a mechanic on F-16s in the South Dakota Air
National Guard since 2019.
