AEA SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
Continued from page 57
Marshall Temple Memorial Scholarship: John Kendall
of Iron, Minnesota, will attend Lake Superior
College. As a high school student, he was
a student-athlete, a member of the National
Honor Society, valedictorian, and earned
an associate degree from Minnesota North
College. Kendall plans to earn an aviation
maintenance technology degree and become an aviation
mechanic with A&P ratings. He is interested in Life Link as
a career option. After growing up in northeastern Minnesota,
he is aware how critical Life Link III air medical transport
services are to rural areas.
Sporty's Foundation Scholarship: Isaias Duran Ramirez of
Lakeland, Florida, is enrolled at Bartow Flying
Service to obtain a pilot license. He has been in
the field of aviation since he was 15, first attending
Central Florida Aerospace Academy in the A&P
and avionics program. At 17, he began working
at Gulf Coast Avionics as an intern and slowly
worked his way up to a full-time avionics technician. He obtained
his aircraft electronics technician certification as well as his airframe
rating in high school. Ramirez flew solo at the age of 17
and attended Traviss Technical College to obtain his powerplant
rating. He aspires to be a pilot.
Mid-Continent Instruments and Avionics
Scholarship: Micah Chin of Germantown,
Maryland, will attend Pittsburgh Institute
of Aeronautics, where he plans to graduate
with his aviation maintenance technician and
aircraft electronics technician certifications.
In high school, Chin earned the President's
Award for Educational Excellence for maintaining a
cumulative 3.5 grade point average. He also earned the
Certificate of Meritorious Service for volunteering more
than 240 student service learning hours.
Stone Foundation Scholarship: Joel Mink of Florence,
Kentucky, is a student at Cincinnati State
Technical Community College in the aviation
maintenance technology program. In addition to
his college coursework, Mink works at TregoDugan
Aviation as part of the airport ground
maintenance department at the Cincinnati/
Northern Kentucky International Airport. He volunteers in his
local community as a youth coach in the Boone County 4-H
Shooting Sports organization and is an adult leader in his Trail
Life USA troop. He earned his private pilot license in January
2022 and is currently working toward an instrument rating. His
career goal is to own an aircraft maintenance firm.
Pat Napolitano Memorial Scholarship: Kayla Hesano of
Carbondale, Illinois, is a student in the aviation
technologies program specializing in aviation
maintenance management at Southern Illinois
University-Carbondale. Hesano was fortunate
to be surrounded by aviation in the air and on
the ground. She currently works as a flight
instructor for her school and loves learning the maintenance
behind aviation, which has transformed both her flying and
mechanical skills. Hesano maintained a 4.0 grade point average
and recently passed her airframe general written exam
with plans to become an A&P mechanic. After finishing
her A&P ratings and obtaining a bachelor's degree, Hesano
hopes to eventually work for an airline. Her ultimate dream is
to build her own aircraft and fly it.
Susan T. Friedle Scholarship: Zachary Minchew of
Carterville, Illinois, is a student at Southern Illinois
University-Carbondale. He is a senior airman in the
Illinois Air National Guard, serving as an avionics
technician on the KC-135R. Minchew is working
on his A&P certificate as well as a bachelor's
degree in aviation technologies with two specializations:
avionics and aviation maintenance management. He is
currently employed at Code One Aviation at Southern Illinois
Airport where he works on the L-39 Albatross training fighter jet.
He plans to learn more about engineering, obtain his private pilot
license, and start his own business to work on avionics modifications
for various airframes.
Universal Avionics Scholarship: Austin Reenders of
Oostburg, Wisconsin, will be a student at Fox
Valley Technical College. In two years, he will be
a certified aviation mechanic with A&P ratings.
Reenders plans to attend one additional year to
receive an associate degree in aircraft electronics.
After graduation, he plans to find employment in a
small shop repairing aircraft. q
