A new industry, called electric power
and light, was born 130 years ago.
Throughout the years, the industry has
provided safe, reliable, and cost-effective
electricity services. However, extreme
weather-the main culprit-has increasingly
affected the grid over the past 20
years. This trend will likely continue.
Millions of people around the world lost
power at times when they needed it most.
As power grids deal with an onslaught
of heatwaves, wildfires, winter storms,
and stronger hurricanes, these kinds of
power outages cost customers billions
of dollars each year. They are happening
more often, taking longer to fix, and
harming more people. To help speed the
grid transition and meet climate change
challenges, PES has launched a new Grid
Edge Technologies Conference & Exposition
to share the latest in grid edge technological
developments. The inaugural
conference and exposition will take place
in spring 2023 in San Diego, Calif.
The future of the electric grid will not
only integrate high penetration of renewables
but also accommodate millions of
diverse intelligent devices connected at
the grid edge, ranging from distributed
energy resources to networks of electric
vehicle chargers to smartphone technologies.
The current grid will need to adapt
significantly by deploying data analytics,
artificial intelligence, new energy management
systems, and other digital tools
in the next two decades. This new conference
and exposition will connect utilities,
technology providers, policymakers,
and key stakeholders from around the
world to advance the clean energy future
while preserving the grid's reliability and
making it more resilient and flexible.
The Grid Edge Conference & Exposition

together to drive the future design and
