Chapter 6-12 Converting Out-of-State License * Document proving Massachusetts residency * A Social Security Number (SSN) that the RMV can verify with the U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA) as having been issued to your OR an acceptable Denial Notice from the SSA. If you present a Denial Notice, you must also present proof of acceptable visa status, and I-94 (Record of Arrival and Departure), and a current Non-U.S. Passport. 2. A customer with a License from Canada, Mexico, or U.S. territory (including Puerto Rico), must present a driving record not more than 30 days old in addition to the ID required above. All documents must be originals. Photocopies will not be accepted. You must also clear a check through the National Driver Register and pay the required fees. If you have a previous Massachusetts License that expired four or more years ago, you are required to show all of the identification listed in the section 18 Years or Older. Please note that if you fail the written permit exam, you must present the required sources of identification documentation the next time you apply for a permit.
