A
s I write this article, I am encouraged to hear that many
of our members have already received the COVID-19
vaccine, and happy to see that reflected in the number of
registrations received so far for Convention coming up in July in
Baltimore. Like you, I want to attend a live doll event, and also like
you, I want to be assured I can do so safely. I can tell you from the
conversations I am having with representatives from the Marriott,
they are on top of the situation.
Given where we are on the vaccination roll out, we have
decided to keep the convention registration at the early bird
prices and not increase them. Originally, an increase was scheduled
for March 1, but we know that some of our members are waiting
for the vaccine before making their decision, so the convention
price will remain the same no matter when you register.
We recently spoke with the R. John Wright Doll Company,
creators of our exclusive, limited edition souvenir doll and they are
hard at work making your dolls. Their concept is a felt toddler,
6 ½-inches tall, ready for play at the beach in the sweetest red
striped swim romper. You may have noticed a sort of sneak
peek through Victoria Christopherson's interpretation of this
little darling in our Facebook promotions.
The 2021 Convention Souvenir Journal editor Loretta
Nardone has an exciting group of authors contributing
informative articles for this year's Baltimore convention.
Alan Scott Pate will give you a sneak preview of his latest
book while Fred Patton will tell you how to create your
own doll dioramas and displays. Samy Odin shares his
knowledge of dolls in bathing costumes throughout
the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Sharing their
collections are our officers, President Barbara Stone
writes about her Schoenhut Babies, Maryll Goldsmith
shares her paper doll collection and Carol Cameron
takes us on a tour of her wax dolls. Rosalie Whyel,
Florence Theriault, Linda Edward, Laurie McGill
and Linda Holderbaum will also share their
expertise. This hardcover book will keep the
